Weldment Cut List Not Updating? Start Here.

When a SolidWorks weldment cut list shows the wrong length, old body count, stale descriptions, or simply refuses to change after edits, the problem is usually not the drawing table itself. The model-side cut-list folders, body grouping, rebuild state, or custom-property links are the first places to check.

Fast diagnostic: expand the Cut list in the FeatureManager and inspect the individual cut-list folders. If the folder contents or properties are already wrong there, fix the part before touching the drawing.

1. Update the cut list in the part

Right-click the top-level Cut list folder and use the update command. If automatic cut-list updating is disabled, geometry changes can leave the folders stale even though the model itself rebuilds.

2. Force a rebuild before checking the table

Rebuild the part and save it before reopening or refreshing the drawing. A drawing can only report what the model currently exposes, so a stale model state often looks like a drawing-table problem.

3. Check whether bodies are grouped into the correct folders

Two bodies that SolidWorks considers identical may be grouped into one cut-list item. If a body changed profile, length, orientation, or feature history and the folder did not regroup as expected, the quantity and properties can look wrong.

4. Inspect cut-list properties directly

Open the properties for the affected cut-list folder and verify values such as Description, LENGTH, ANGLE1, ANGLE2, material, and any custom fields you use. If the value is wrong in the folder, the table is only reporting the error.

5. Watch for manual property overrides

A manually typed property can stop reflecting the automatically generated value you expected. If one row stays frozen while others update, compare its property definitions with a working cut-list item.

6. Check the drawing table after the model is correct

Once the part-side cut list is right, rebuild the drawing and verify that the table columns are linked to the intended cut-list properties. A column linked to a general custom property instead of a cut-list property can appear inconsistent.

Good troubleshooting order
  1. Update cut list.
  2. Rebuild the part.
  3. Verify folder/body grouping.
  4. Inspect cut-list properties.
  5. Save the part.
  6. Rebuild the drawing.
  7. Check table property links.

If it still will not update

At that point, compare one good cut-list folder with one bad folder. The difference usually reveals whether the issue is body grouping, a property override, or feature history. For a production drawing package, it is worth fixing the root cause instead of manually editing table cells.
