Surface Bodies Missing From a Drawing View?
A surface can exist perfectly well in the part and still disappear from the drawing. The usual causes are body visibility, the referenced configuration or display state, view-level hide/show settings, or the fact that a surface has no thickness and therefore behaves differently from a solid in certain drawing views.

Drawing views can point to a specific configuration. If the surface feature is suppressed or the body is hidden in that configuration, the drawing cannot show it even if another configuration looks correct.
2. Check body visibility in the part
Expand the Surface Bodies folder and verify that the body itself is shown. A hidden surface body can remain hidden when a drawing view is created or updated.
3. Inspect view-level hide/show bodies
SolidWorks drawing views can hide individual bodies independently of the model. If only one view is missing the surface while another shows it, a view-level visibility setting is a strong suspect.
- Right-click the affected drawing view.
- Look for Hide/Show Bodies or related view visibility controls.
- Confirm the surface body is not explicitly excluded.
- Compare the settings with a view that displays correctly.
4. Check the display state or configuration used by the view
If your part uses display states to control visible bodies, verify the drawing is not tied to a state where the surface is hidden. This is especially easy to miss when the model was edited after the drawing was created.
5. Understand what the drawing can actually display
A surface body has no physical thickness. Depending on view orientation and display style, an edge-on surface may be difficult or impossible to see. Rotate the model or create a test view at a different angle to confirm whether the body is present but visually coincident.
6. Rebuild the model and drawing
Save and rebuild the part, then rebuild the drawing. If the surface was created or modified recently, stale drawing data can make the view look inconsistent until the reference is refreshed.
7. Test with a brand-new drawing view
If a new view of the same configuration shows the surface correctly, the original view likely has a local visibility or view-state problem. That is useful because it avoids unnecessary changes to the part.
- Open the exact referenced configuration.
- Verify the surface body is shown in the part.
- Check view-level body visibility.
- Check display state/configuration selection.
- Rebuild and save both files.
- Create a new test view for comparison.
When the surface still will not appear
Compare a working view and a failing view side by side. If both reference the same configuration, the difference is usually in the drawing view properties. If neither view can display the surface, focus on the part-side body state and how the surface is oriented.
