Send the part information
Upload photos, scans, old drawings or screenshots. Include several measurements and identify the features that matter for fit or function.
Define critical geometry
We separate important functional dimensions from cosmetic geometry, damage and wear. Mating surfaces, hole locations, fits and symmetry get priority.
Rebuild the model
The part is recreated as controlled CAD geometry suitable for revision. Where uncertainty exists, assumptions are identified instead of hidden.
Deliver manufacturing-ready files
Depending on scope, the package can include SolidWorks, STEP, STL and a dimensioned PDF drawing for machining, fabrication or 3D printing.

Reverse engineering for machining, fabrication and 3D printing

Reverse engineering CAD FAQ
Do I need a 3D scanner?
No. A scanner can help with irregular or freeform geometry, but many mechanical parts are better defined with caliper measurements, photos and functional dimensions.
Can you copy a worn part exactly?
Usually that is not the goal. When possible, the model should represent the intended geometry rather than reproducing wear, deformation or a broken edge. Known fits and mating features help determine that.
Can I get an editable SolidWorks model?
Yes, when native SolidWorks is part of the agreed deliverable. Neutral STEP files can also be provided for use in other CAD systems.
What if I do not have every dimension?
Send what you have. The free review can identify which missing dimensions are actually necessary before modeling starts.
