3D printing work LayerForge can review

Functional Parts

Brackets, adapters, holders, covers, fixtures, replacement components, prototypes, and practical parts intended for real-world use.

Prototype Parts

Test-fit parts, concept models, design revisions, proof-of-concept components, and low-volume prototypes.

Material Selection

PLA, PETG, nylon, carbon-fiber reinforced materials, and other options can be evaluated based on heat, strength, stiffness, and use conditions.

Design Review

Parts can be reviewed for print orientation, supports, wall thickness, tolerances, fit, strength, and changes that may improve printability.

What affects a 3D printing quote?

Custom 3D printing pricing depends on more than the weight of the plastic. The main factors are part size, print time, material, quantity, support material, setup, finishing, tolerances, and whether the model needs design changes before it can be printed reliably.

  • Part size and print time: larger or slower parts use more machine time.
  • Material: PETG, nylon, carbon-fiber reinforced materials, and specialty filaments can have different costs and print requirements.
  • Quantity: multiple parts may reduce setup cost per piece, but total machine time still matters.
  • Geometry: supports, thin walls, tight tolerances, and difficult orientation can affect cost and printability.
  • Design work: if the model needs repair, redesign, reverse engineering, or fit changes, that work is quoted separately before it begins.

What to include with your quote request

  • Quantity needed
  • Preferred material, if known
  • Preferred color
  • Approximate overall size
  • Strength, heat, or load requirements
  • Surface finish or appearance requirements
  • STL, STEP, STP, 3MF, drawing, sketch, or photos when available
  • Any deadline or special fit requirements

Common 3D printing quote questions

What do I need to get a 3D printing quote?

Send the quantity, approximate size, preferred material and color, important fit or strength requirements, and whatever model, drawing, sketch, or photos you already have.

Can you quote from a STEP or STL file?

Yes. STEP, STP, STL, and 3MF files can all be reviewed. Drawings and screenshots are useful when dimensions or fit requirements are not obvious from the model alone.

What if the part still needs design work?

That is fine. LayerForge can identify design changes that may improve strength, fit, tolerances, or printability and quote that work before making changes.

Designed for practical use

LayerForge focuses on functional printing and real-world part requirements. If a small design change could improve strength, fit, print quality, or production time, that can be identified during the review before the job is quoted.
