Custom 3D printing pricing depends on more than the weight of the plastic. The main factors are part size, print time, material, quantity, support material, setup, finishing, tolerances, and whether the model needs design changes before it can be printed reliably.
- Part size and print time: larger or slower parts use more machine time.
- Material: PETG, nylon, carbon-fiber reinforced materials, and specialty filaments can have different costs and print requirements.
- Quantity: multiple parts may reduce setup cost per piece, but total machine time still matters.
- Geometry: supports, thin walls, tight tolerances, and difficult orientation can affect cost and printability.
- Design work: if the model needs repair, redesign, reverse engineering, or fit changes, that work is quoted separately before it begins.
